Springtime on the Homestead

 Our first batch of chicks are really getting big! They are loving their coop and are very friendly. 

After church on Sundays, we like to go on a walk together and explore the woods and go down to the creek. 

It is beautiful year round but seeing the creek in the spring is something special. I love the sound of the little waterfalls

We have new baby chicks and some turkeys! 

As they grow they will move to a bigger brooder, this was their first day home. Our newest additions are four Bourbon Red Turkeys, 5 female and 1 male Black Australorp,  10 female and 1 male Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. 

Fun At Silver Dollar City. Before we go on any rides we always head to the Wilderness Church to praise God for everything. We all get to choose a hymn from the hymn books and everyone in the church sings together. At the end the singers sing to everyone who is in the church. These are the singers for the Wilderness Church. 

For Mother's Day we went to a nearby creek (bigger than the one on our property) that has BBQ pits, bathrooms, and picnic tables. This was our first time going so now we know to bring a picnic for next time. 

It's nice to take a break from all the work on the homestead and have a chance to go and play and relax for a bit

Projects are never ending on a homestead and our garden currently looks like a lumber yard. Some of the wood is for the school house and green house. Those are the good bits of wood that are straight and true. 

A lot of the other wood we were able to buy cheaply since it was their cull pile. While many of the boards are badly warped, they are perfect for cutting down and using in things like a planter bed in the garden.

Working hard to get planter beds finished. We were suppose to have a load of top soil delivered earlier this month around May 6th but due to weather, and then the truck that was suppose to deliver it breaking down we are still waiting. We COULD go get top soil from local stores but buying in by the truckload is $40 rather than just getting a couple bags for that price. While we hate to wait, it is a much better value if we do.
