A Hiking We Will Go

Taking the kids to the park has been great fun watching them run around and enjoy climbing and playing in the sunshine but I wanted to get some exercise in too. We looked around and found two trails and decided to check them out.

The first trail was only a 1 mile loop we decided to walk that one first. It was a nice little walk and has a lot of historical information about the Van Winkle family and the mill they use to operate. The kids would race from one place to the next to read the signs. Don't get me wrong... they were not information hungry, they just wanted to be there first to be the one to read it, lol.

Our next hike took us to Tanyard Creek Nature Trail which is a 2.2 mile loop but we ended up walking a little extra since we discovered some areas to explore that were not on the loop. The trail was mostly shaded but with the outdoor temperature reading from the car saying it was 107F it was nice to find these little cave pockets. You could feel almost a 10 degree drop in temperature near their small openings.

While we were walking we had fun discovering little things along the way. This stream that we crossed by a small bridge was teaming with little fish and the water was so clear!

We started playing The Floor is Lava as we crossed the streams and creeks

Willow found a tiny little snake
At the end before you turn around and start the loop back we found a waterfall and let the kids play in the water. They had so much fun that they were asking when we could come back again.

Gavyn was having so much fun he did not want to leave. The whole way back to the car he kept asking if we could come back again and repeating That was FUN!!! Do it again PLEASE??!!
(we did answer but he wanted to make sure we got the message that it was fun since he did a bit of grumbling at the start of the trail)
